Its impound and high waters are only the widening of a small river which has its source in the moors of Anhtenaise, and which waters Louverné.
Jacques Le Blanc de La Vignolle wrote a historical notice on the pond of Barbé. He thinks that the lord of Laval built the Chaussée de Barbé around 1400. Guy XII of Laval, in his confession of 1407, declares that it is part of his domain.
