The Stars of St. Vincent are star-shaped fossils with 5 branches used as jewelry in the region of Digne-les-Bains, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.

These are crinoid fossils found in lower Lias layers, mainly in Sinemurian. These crinoids are commonly called pentacrines or sea lilies.

The jewels using the stars of Saint-Vincent were made for the first time by the jeweler dignois Antoine Colomb about 1855. A fashion developed from this practice, reduced today by the regulation intended for the preservation of the geological heritage. Bibliography edit code
