The Bonzos were a group of Austrian agents deployed by the British to prevent the destruction of Old Masters.
When Hitler came to power, he wanted to possess all kinds of art. At the height he had more than 500 paintings, 28 images and 230 drawings. In 1944 the Allies found out that Adolf Hitler wanted to destroy his art collection as soon as the war was lost.
The leader of the Bonzos was Gaswinkler, a resident of the place where the art was preserved. The Bonzos joined the Austrian resistance and knew several times in the mines where the art lay, to infiltrate. They moved some important works to other spaces, so that they could no longer be damaged by the bomb, which had to be blasted on Hitler's command when the war was lost. The Bonzos continued to conduct various guerrilla attacks on the Nazis in the mine until the end of the war. When the Americans arrived, all art was still very much. Externe link
