Hotel Europa (Reus)

Hotel Europa (Reus).

The Hotel Europa or Building "El Ocaso" is a modernist building in Reus (Tarragona, Spain) included in the Inventory of Architectural Heritage of Catalonia. Description

It is a corner building of ground floor and four floors, with the main facade in the suburb of Santa Ana and the lateral one in the street of the Vilar. Its decoration is very austere, and is basically concentrated in the upper zone, between the imposta line of the openings of the last floor that have a half-point profile, unlike those of the rest, and the crowning of the building, where They combine areas with funiculate striations with details of plant repertoire. A cornice supported by a succession of angular corbels.

At the height of the last floor of the corner, there is a large medallion surrounded by a vegetal border, which served as the identifying sign of the establishment. The initials of the original name, Hotel Europa, are read. The medallion reinforces the axial vision and takes advantage of the corner situation of the house. On the main floor stands the grandstand, which occupies almost the entire facade and is articulated with groups of two columns with Ionic capitals. The openings of this plant are large, looking to give natural light in the interior, where the restaurant was originally located. In the main façade there are two openings, that of the staircase of neighbors and that of the current commercial premises, characterized by two elegant cast iron columns. The railings of the balconies and the grandstand are forged, with a very simple and elegant line drawing. History
