The Governor of the Netherlands Antilles was until 2010 the representative of the Dutch head of state (last Beatrix Queen) on the former Netherlands Antilles.

However, he was not part of the Antilles cabinet. During the cabinet formation he played an important role. As in the Netherlands the king, the governor was inviolable and the ministers were responsible. The governor was appointed by the head of state for a period of six years. After that, that period could be extended again (ie up to 12 years).
The governor was assisted by a council of advice, consisting of at least five members appointed by him, who delivered advice on all draft laws, state laws, country decisions containing general measures and the like.
