Quadrantectomy

Quadrantectomy in oncological surgery is the medical term for the removal of a quarter of the breast.

Quadrantectomy is recommended in cases in which the tumor is small -which occurs in 10 to 20% of cases. The tissue removed is small enough so that there is no significant difference between an operated breast and one that has not undergone surgery.

As demonstrated by the creator of this type of surgery, Umberto Veronesi, survival rates among women who have undergone surgery with this surgery to keep the breast and those who have undergone more aggressive surgery or the removal of the Totality of the breast are similar.
