Soviet dissidents

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. Soviet dissidents were those citizens or groups of the Soviet Union who disagreed with the policies and actions of their government and actively protested against them through non-violent means. Through these protests, people involved in such activities would suffer reprisals such as harassment, persecution or ultimately imprisonment, often at the hands of the NKVD or the KGB. Although dissent with Soviet policies and persecution of this dissent existed from the time of the October Revolution and the establishment of Soviet power, the term has been more frequently applied to dissenters of the post-epoch era Stalinist.
