Tyke


Tyke (1974 - August 20, 1994) was an elephant who ran into a circus during a performance in Honolulu, Hawaii, injured her trainer Allen Campbell deadly and her other trainer Dallas Beckwith caused serious injuries.

Tyke hit a crowd of hundreds of spectators in the Neal Blaisdell Center. After she had made two victims, she traveled for more than thirty minutes to the streets of the Kakaako district. The police unleashed 86 shots on the elephant before she caused her injuries.

Sixteen months before the incident, on April 21, 1993, Tyke was also loose during a performance and hit the doors of the Jaffa Mosque in Altoona, PA. Then 4500 schoolchildren were evacuated and the elephant caused a damage of more than 10,000 euros. On July 23, 1993, Tyke resumed and stepped into a supervisor in the presence of the public. Then, after 25 minutes, the animal was left under control.
