Carlos Augusto Manuel Zevallos Vera (born in Arequipa, Peru, on June 22, 1919) was a Peruvian philosopher whose work is framed within the hermeneutic-phenomenological tradition.

Academic career

Zevallos Vera was the first president of the National Assembly of Rectors of Peru, rector of the National University of San Agustín de Arequipa in two periods (1972-1975 and 1984-1989). He has received the Gold Medal and the Diploma of Honor from the Provincial Council of Arequipa in 1987. He was also Professor Emeritus of the National University of San Agustín de Arequipa and Doctor Honoris causa of the Alas Peruanas University of Peru. In 2008 he received the Magisterial Palms in the Amauta degree awarded by the Ministry of Education of Peru and the public recognition of the National Assembly of Rectors as its first president. Civic activity

Within his civic activity he stands out as president of the Jockey Club of Arequipa (1976-1979), especially when he had to lead the remodeling of the official box of the Porongoche racetrack after a mob of strikers set him on fire. The Arequipa equestrian has established the "Classic Manuel Zevallos Vera" in his honor, which runs on dates close to his name day. As a political man he participated in the elections to the Mayor of Arequipa in 1989, by the FREDEMO alliance. As a singular anecdote, Zevallos Vera as a university professor was a member of the jury that approved the thesis support of the Maoist leader Abimael Guzmán. Works
