Nijmegen Volcanic Museum

The Nijmegen National Museum is a former museum located in the area of Radboud University in the Dutch city of Nijmegen.

The museum opened on September 24, 1979 and was founded by the Department of Anthropology of the Faculty of Social Sciences. In addition to holding general exhibitions, the museum also offered study material that made it easier for students to do research on non-Western cultures. The collection contained over 11,000 pieces of which a small section of their own collection. Most of the collection was in the loan of missionaries of the orders of the Kapucines, Augustines and Jesuits. The museum also managed the municipal Beijens collection, named after donor Jean Beijens, and the collection of the previously closed Volkenskunde Mission Museum Tilburg. The emphasis was on Southeast Asia and the Pacific Ocean.

In June 2005, the museum was closed because it had little added value for scientific purposes. It has become easier to explore many places around the world. A large part of the Nijmeeg Volkenkunde Collection was present at the university's depots and is accessible on request. The Beijens collection was housed in the Bronbeek museum in December 2010, while the mission collections were given in long term loans to the Ethnographic Collections of Ghent University in mid-2011. 51° 49′ 8″ NB, 5° 51′ 47″ OL
