As in The Song of the Witches, the action of The Queen of Light takes place in a fifteenth century ending, drawing her characters from the Vatican gold to the Egyptian deserts, through the harems of Istanbul. If the second volume really tightens on the outcome of the main plot as stories of each protagonist, the first dwells however on the painting of the decadent Roman society of the time, including including Caesar and Lucrezia Borgia, the Pope Alexander VI and his mistress Giulia Farnese. The novel also takes up the plot around the myth of Melusine and Avalon started in the first part of the saga, and turns towards Egyptian mythology. Critical receptionmodify the code
