Klepon

Klepon wrapped in banana leaf.

The klepon is a traditional Indonesian rice cake from the gastronomy of Java. It consists of a boiled rice cake stuffed with jawa glue (palm sugar) liquid and covered with grated coconut. It is green when flavored with a paste made of pandan or dragon, whose leaves are widely used in Southeast Asian cuisine.

In other parts of Indonesia, such as Sumatra, the klepon is called where-where, a name used in Java for a ball of rice cake covered with sesame seed and filled with sweet green bean paste. >

The klepon, along with the getuk and the cenil, is usually taken as an aperitif in the morning or in the afternoon. To eat it must be taken care of, since the freshly made one usually contains sugar of hot palm that overflows when biting it.
