American Gothic novel

The American Gothic narrative is a literary genre pertaining to Gothic narrative. The specific elements of the American Gothic are: rational vs. irrational, puritanism, guilt, gloom or gloom (Das Unheimliche); defined by Sigmund Freud as the rarity in common things, mutants, ghosts, monsters and internal degradation. The origins of these concepts lie in a past filled with slavery, fear of racial mixing, adverse relations with Native Americans, their subsequent genocide, and the bleak wilderness on the American border. The American Gothic narrative usually does not include castles or objects that allude to the history of civilization. The distinction between horror and terror is important in the study of these texts: The Beginning of the American Gothic Narrative New Gothic Narrative
