Antonio del Val


Antonio del Val Ripoll (Elda, January 13, 1839 - Zamora, March 7, 1886) was a Spanish philosopher, journalist and politician, cousin of Emilio Castelar. He graduated in Philosophy and Arts and worked as a professor of logic at an institute in Madrid and History of Spain and Literature at the Central University of Madrid. He collaborated in the newspaper La Democracia, was editor of El Globo and militated in the Federal Democratic Republican Party.

In the general elections of August 1872 he appeared as a candidate for deputy for the electoral district of Denia, but was defeated by Lorenzo Fernández Muñoz. More luck had in the elections of 1873, in which yes it was chosen by the district of Monóvar. During the First Republic was civil governor of the province of Almeria, General Director of Correos (September of 1873) and personal secretary of his cousin. He was the creator of the establishment of the use of the postcard. After the coup d'etat of the general Pavía left his positions, dedicating itself to the journalism. He later supported Eleuterio Maisonnave's proposal for the Republican Party to participate in the 1879 elections.
