Plantigrade

The bear is an example of a plantigrade animal.

A plantigrade is any animal that completely supports the sole of the foot to walk, which also allows it to rise easily on its hind legs.

It is usually used more when talking about mammals such as bears or humans, to note the difference with digitigrades, which are the majority among current mammals. Clarifying this definition, it is known that mammals possess the digits or fingers and the plant or palm. The plantigrades rest entirely on the fingers and the palm, both of the front and rear legs (in humans, only those of the feet, which, when walking, first the heel is supported, then the plant and last the fingers, but each part of the foot touches the ground). On the other hand, digitigrades support only the fingers, that is, they walk like "on tiptoe".

The main genres included in this group are bears, arctomis, íctidos, coatíes, kincajás, tejones and glotons.
