Emblem of the Commonwealth of Independent States

Emblem of the Commonwealth of Independent States

The emblem of the Commonwealth of Independent States (Russian: Содружество Независимых Государств) features a yellow sun over a field of dark blue with eight bent posts holding the sun. The poles represent the members of the CIS, who signed the new Union treaty on 21 December 1991 (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan). The design (which reflects the Community flag) symbolizes the desire for partnership between equals, unity, peace and stability.
