Troja

A troja is a trellis, a link built by stakes or palisades of wood and reeds, used to protect some food items. Its purpose is that the plant remains upright and prevent the fruits from touching the ground, so that the fruits can hang, and make their growth more effective. This palisade is used in Colombia and Venezuela, especially the páramos of the Táchira state by farmers, especially those dedicated to the cultivation of tomatoes. There is a large group of plants that need this technique. The most popular are climbers such as ivy, clematis, bignonias, passionflower, partenocissus, jasmine, wisteria, climbing rose ... but there are many more such as shrubs pyracanthas, forsythias, cotoneaster, etc. which are widely used for the realization of hedges or to create extensive plant masses in vertical supported also on structural supports and even walls.

Ornamental trees, at the time of planting, usually also require the support of a strong guardian to ensure that their main trunk grows during its first two years strong and straight as we wish, without the weight of its crown or prevailing winds will damage it.

Materials to build a troja

A troja is built with reed, herbaceous native to America, of the Solanaceae family, with stems that are one to two meters long, hairy, hollow, flimsy and branched; slightly hairy leaves cut into unequal segments jagged at the edges, and yellow flowers in simple clusters. It is cultivated a lot in the orchards for its fruit. The troja is a link used to support the tomato plant as well as its fruit, which is gathered in the troja in lateral branches. Agrarian utility

The troja allows the fruit to multiply from the separation of the soil. In winter it is grown in the open air and protects it from being washed away by the rain. Its collection and handling are simpler. The harvest can be mechanized at the time of obtaining the fruit, whose size oscillates between that of a small gooseberry and that of a sphere of 10 cm. in diameter or more; As for its shape, there are round, pear-shaped and elongated fruits, and of red, yellow and green colors.

With the logs you get better benefits of the fruits, and you can pick them up more easily. The trojas can be used throughout the year. If this link is not used, the harvest can be much smaller.

It can also be used to protect harvested corn from touching the ground. Making a frame with sticks and covered with wire.
