Budweiser is a German adjective relating to the city of Budweis, the German name of České Budějovice, a city located in Bohemia, Czech Republic and founded as Budějovice in 1265 by order of the King of Bohemia Přemysl Otakar II.

Two breweries were founded in the city that made beers, which they called "Budweiser" because they were from the city of Budweis. In 1876, the American brewer Anheuser-Busch began to develop a beer brand that they called the same name, "Budweiser". This caused that in 1907 the "dispute of the Budweiser brand" between the companies that disputed for the rights of the name was opened.
