Negentropy, negative entropy or synthropy is the entropy that exports an organism to keep its own entropy level low. Negentropy is a central concept in the theory of entropy and life. The term negative entropy was first used in 1943 by Erwin Schrödinger in his book What Is Life? Later, this term was shortened by Léon Nicolas Brillouin to negentropy, to remove the negative connotation. In 1974 Albert Szent-Györgyi suggested the term Synthesis, but in the end, nineteenthropy was the most popular name.
