Nic Hoydonckx


Nicolaus "Nic" Huibrecht Hoydonckx (Bolderberg (Zolder), 29th December 1900 - Hasselt, February 4, 1985) was a Belgian football player who played as a defender. He played in First Class at Berchem Sport and Tilleur FC and played 36 games with the Belgian football team. In the first class, Nic played 119 games and scored 1 goal. Career

Hoydonckx debuted in 1920 as a left back in the first team of Berchem Sport that was active in Second Class. In 1922 the team graduated to First Class. Hoydonckx stayed football until 1928. Meanwhile, Hoydonckx had become the best left back of Belgium and he was a regular player in the Belgian football team.

Hoydonckx moved to Limburg and joined the third-class Excelsior Hasselt football. Despite playing in a lower division, Hoydonckx remained a fixed value in the national team. He was the first Limburger to become football international.

Hoydonckx played 36 competitions with the Red Devils between 1928 and 1933. He participated in the Olympic Summer Games in Amsterdam in 1928 and played three games. At the World Cup in 1930 in Uruguay, Hoydonckx played two games.

In the meantime, Excelsior Hasselt was promoted to Second Class in 1930 and Hoydonckx continued playing until 1933 when the club dropped back to Third Class. Hoydonckx drew to Tilleur FC who was just promoted to First Class. However, the club declined immediately to Second Class and Hoydonckx continued playing until 1936 when he scored a point behind his players career.

After that, Hoydonckx was still active as a football coach in the provincial series at Bolderberg FC, Esperanza Neerpelt and Sporting Spalbeek, among others. Bibliography
