Noreya

Noreya (in Latin, Noreia) was an ancient city in the eastern part of the Alps, the capital of the kingdom of Norea. Your location has not been precisely determined.

Some researchers believe that Noreya could correspond to the Celtic-Roman settlement excavated at the Magdalensberg in Carinthia, Austria. Others place it in Zollfeld, Carinthia, or in the surroundings of Liebenfels in the Glan river valley. Another possible location, currently in fashion, is the Gracarca hill, next to the Klopeiner See in Carinthia, an area where several tombs of Celtic princes have been found.

There may also be more than one place called Noreya. It seems that there are two identical entries in the Tabula Peutingeriana, a map of the fourth century. It is more likely, however, that the double entry system of a Roman station Noreya is a copier error.

In the surroundings of the city of Noreya, in 113 a. C., Cimbrios and Teutones defeated to a Roman army in the Battle of Noreya. Nor is there any certainty that the location of the battle and the capital of Nórius corresponded to the same city. Sources
