Bao Ninh

Bao Ninh (Nghệ An, 1952) is a Vietnamese writer famous for the novel "The Sorrow of War." (Editions B) on the Vietnam War.

Published in 1991, the work was an immediate sales success in Vietnam and around the world, although at first it suffered the misgivings of the Vietnamese government, due to its non-patriotic vision of the "American war" (using the term vietamita ). The book tells how a high school boy fought for 10 years and was the only survivor of a battalion of 500 soldiers.

Bao Ninh has written another novel, "Steppe", which he has not yet wanted to publish, perhaps because he considers that it is not as natural as the first one.

A short story by Bao Ninh, Khắc dấu mạn thuyền, translated by Linh Dinh, is included in the anthology Night, Again.
