Castle of Montemar

The castle of Montemar is located to the south of the municipality of Algorfa (Province of Alicante, Spain)

It is a manor house built at the end of the 18th century. Since then, and for almost 150 years, it belonged to the family of the counts of Casa Rojas. The first Count of Casa Rojas, and possibly the first owner of this Castle, was Jose de Rojas and Recana de la Torre. This gentleman was the first to have the dignity of captain general of the department of Cartagena. He was born in Cadiz in 1702 and after a long and courageous career in the army, was appointed by the King, Count of Casa Rojas and viscount of Recaño. He died in Cartagena at 93 years of age. Throughout the 19th century, Montemar Castle continued to belong to its successors. At the end of the civil war, the family of Rojas had to sell the estate and the Castle that contained. After passing through several owners, the Castle was acquired in 1970 by its current owners, and was the object of a major restoration that saved it from disappearing, and adapted it internally as a private home, a use that continues to have today. p>

This castle never had military uses, it was generally used as a summer residence for successive owners. His style is somewhat French. It has two square towers and two circular with corners of ashlars. The main tower that we can call "the homage", has garitones in its corners, and battlements with their coronations inclined towards the outside. It has a square patio surrounded by a gallery located on the first floor. The roofs of the towers are flat and accessible, although during the last century they had four-story roofs made with slate. The view you have from these terraces undoubtedly justifies the name of this
