Felix Gogo


Félix Gogo (Antwerp, November 12, 1872 - 30 November 1953) was a Belgian painter.

Lifecycle

Since 1887, Gogo was a student at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp (eg at Eugène Joors) and from 1891 at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts (eg Piet van der Ouderaa). He participated in the competitions for the Prize of Rome in 1892, 1895, 1898 (3rd Prize) and 1901 (2nd Prize, with 'The Embellished Embellished').

Gogo traveled to Spain, Tunisia and Italy.

In 1904 he became a teacher at the Academy of Dendermonde and in 1910 at Antwerp. From 1934 to 1939 Gogo was the director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Dendermonde.

Gogo painted figures, landscapes (the Kempen, the North Sea coast), cityscapes, interiors (often churches) and still lifes. He also processed his theme in lithos. Gogo realized some murals in the Opera in Antwerp (1912). These were later painted over. He was a member of the artists' associations "De Scalden", "Als ik Kan" (of which he became president later) and "National Confederation of Art Painters and Sculptors of Belgium".

Gogo was buried at the cemetery Schoonselhof. Exhibitions Museums Literature
