Haarlem Society of Teisterbant

The Haarlem Society of Teisterbant was a society in Haarlem between 1950 and 1973.

In 1949, in Haarlem, a circular round with the call became a member of an association to become a point of art, art lovers, art lovers and art interested persons. At the opening, in March 1950, what was called the Haarlem Society of Teisterbant 180 members, including Godfried Bomans (first president), Lodewijk van Deyssel (honorary president), Mari Andriessen, later Harryovic and Anton Heyboer.

The social space was located in the cellars of the Brinkmann restaurant at the Grote Markt. Besides the "wet municipality" there were artists and art lovers, painters, musicians, writers and journalists. The board organized literary evenings that were provided by, among others, Godfried Bomans, Harry Prenen, Harry Mulisch, Ed. Hoornik, Hella Haasse and Karel Jonckheere. There were French chanson nights with Patachou and les Frères Jacques, movie nights with Dick Laan, music nights with Wouter Paap and chess games.

The name of the society was derived from the poet Willem Bilderdijk who called Count of Teisterbant and died at the Brinkmann building in the Grand Place.

The society was active until June 1970. In September 2009, the 'Artists' Association Nieuw Teisterbant' was established, which also holds its meetings in the Restaurant Brinkmann, no longer in the cellar. Literature
