Llannerch-y-medd

Llannerch-y-medd (sometimes as Llanerch-y-medd or Llanerchymedd) is a small village in Anglesey, North Wales, on SH415844. The Royal Mail zip code is LL71.

The village is located near the center of Anglesey, near the large Llyn Alaw marsh. It is believed to have been founded in antiquity. Llannerch means "a clearing in the forest". The word medd in Welsh means mead, which is made of honey, and the name can be related to the production of honey to make mead. The former Anglesey Central Railway crosses the village. The station was closed during the Beeching Ax, and the depot is now a car park.

It is also said that Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, was buried in this town. However, it is very unlikely that Mary, who lived in Palestine, would end her days in Anglesey on the outer frontiers of the Roman Empire. This theory is the subject of Graham Phillips' book "The Marian Conspiracy." The traditional tomb of Mary is located near Ephesus, in present-day Turkey.
