The General Assembly of the United Nations declares on November 6 of every year International Day for the Prevention of the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict. Celebration

On November 5, 2001, the General Assembly of the United Nations in Resolution 56/4 declared on November 6 of each year International Day for the Prevention of the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict.

International Day for the Prevention of the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict Although humanity has always counted its victims of war in terms of dead and wounded soldiers and civilians, destroyed cities and livelihoods, the environment has often been the neglected victim. Water wells have been contaminated, crops burned, forests felled, soils poisoned, and animals slaughtered for military advantage. To raise awareness on this issue, the General Assembly declared the International Day for the Prevention of the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, which will be held on 6 November each year (resolution 56/4). In addition, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) notes that in the past 60 years at least 40% of internal conflicts have had some relation to the exploitation of natural resources, both because they are considered "very value ", such as wood, diamonds, gold, minerals or oil, as scarce, for example, fertile land and water. When it comes to conflicts over natural resources, the risk of conflict is doubled. United Nations
