Party of Costa Rica

The Party of Costa Rica was a subdivision of the Province of Nicaragua and Costa Rica, created in 1812 by the Provincial Delegation of Nicaragua and Costa Rica with the territory of the former Province of Costa Rica (when the Constitution of Cadiz was approved) , then it was dissolved in 1814 (when absolutism was restored), then it was restored in 1820 (when the Constitution of Cadiz returned). Its head was the city of Carthage. The hitherto interim Governor of Costa Rica, Juan Manuel de Cañas-Trujillo and Sánchez de Madrid, was appointed as Sub-Political Chief of the new Party, subordinate to the authority of the Higher Political Chief residing in the city of León of Nicaragua. > The Party of Costa Rica had an ephemeral life, since 11 of October of 1821 the Province of Nicaragua and Costa Rica proclaimed its absolute independence of the Spanish government and soon the Costa Ricans chose to separate of the authorities of Leon and to reestablish the autonomy of the territory, with the name of Province of Costa Rica, as consecrated in the Pact of Concord of 1 of December of 1821.
