Fransche Gaatje

The Fransgaatje is a small mound in the Dutch part of the Wadden Sea, which is used by smaller ships and yachts to be anchorage and dry landfill. The geul is a western branch of the Vliestroom, the main main road between Vlieland and Terschelling. Low-draft ships can use the French Gate as a sheltered alternative route to Vlieland, avoiding the flow and seagull of the Great Milk. To the north of the crowd lies the uninhabited natural island of the Richel. The sand plate between Gaatje and Richel is a favorite spot to dry at low tide.
