Kotah (also Kota), city in northern India, in the state of Rajasthan on the banks of the river Chambal. The city is the distribution center of an area producing cotton, millet, wheat and oilseeds. There are factories of cotton and oil, distilleries and textile and dairy industries. The railway junction, also crossing or confluence of roads, is about 4.8 km north of the city. In Kota you will find the famous Mathureshi Temple and the ancient and modern palaces of Maharaja. In ancient times, the city was the capital of the principality of Kota, founded in 1572.
