National Hospital of Geriatrics and Gerontology


The National Hospital of Geriatrics and Gerontology, Dr Raúl Blanco Cervantes, is a nosocomial center specialized in the care of elderly people and the development of a process of education and strengthening of specialized care in geriatrics and gerontology. It is one of the main specialized national hospitals and therefore, depends on the Costa Rican Social Security Fund. The National Hospital of Geriatrics and Gerontology, also known by its acronym HNGG, is considered one of the best hospitals of its kind in Latin America. History

Initially, the current building where the geriatric hospital is located, belonged to the National Hospital for Tuberculosis, inaugurated in January 1958 and functional until 1976, name with which it was known until 1975 National Hospital for Tuberculosis. In December 1975 the hospital was named as the Hospital Dr. Raúl Blanco Cervantes, who was a prominent doctor in the care and treatment of tuberculosis.

Since 1976, it has focused on the specialized care of older adults, to this day, providing an indispensable service in geriatric and gerontological specifics, positioning itself as the main health center of this category in the country. Help Association
