San Petronio (Michelangelo)


The San Petronio is a juvenile sculpture by Michelangelo, executed between 1494 and 1495 and placed in the basilica of Santo Domingo in Bologna. Description and characteristics

The work represents San Petronio, bishop and patron of Bologna, was executed in a marble already sketched by Niccolò dell'Arca. The figure of sixty-four centimeters, holds between both hands the representation of the city itself, surrounded by the wall where the Garisenda and Asinelli towers are distinguished.

The influence of Jacopo della Quercia is appreciated in the arrangement of the clothes and painters of Ferrara, especially with that of Cosimo Tura. Bibliography used
