The development of Freemasonry in Colombia has been linked since its inception to the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and for that reason to the Neogranadino and Central Colombian Supreme Councils, today the Supreme Council of the 33rd Degree for Colombia; to the extent that these bodies were those that gave patent letter to the great majority, if not the totality, of the Lodges that were created in the 19th century in the Colombian territory.
