Tony Jacklin


Anthony Jacklin CBE (Scunthorpe, July 7, 1944) is a professional golfer from England.

Jacklin's father Arthur David Jacklin was a truck driver, he was the oldest home, and the only son.

He started golfing when he was 9 years old. As a child, he was sure he would become famous and practiced his signature. At the age of 17, he became professional and finished 60th in the Order of Merit, which became his Rookie of the Year. He became the most successful captain of the Ryder Cup team. He won three Cups with his team.

In 1966, he married Vivien Murray, 21 and 22. At the same time they went to Australia and America, he as a golfer, she as a caddy. In 1968 he achieved his first major victory. The coincidence that he hit the first hole-in-one in 1967, once taken on television. In 1969 he won the British Open three years before the European PGA Tour was founded. He was the first Englishman to win him since Max Faulkner in 1951. In 1970 he won the US Open and was the first Englishman to win him since Cyril Walker in 1924. Since 1900 he was the first player to have both titles. In 1970 he won the first edition of the Trophée Lancôme.

In 1988 his wife died of cerebral hemorrhage. They had two sons and a daughter. His second wife, Astrid, was previously married to Bee Gees's guitarist Alan Kendall, and had a son and daughter. Together they got another child.

In 2002 Jacklin was added to the World Golf Hall of Fame. Together with Lee Trevino he became an honorary member of the Royal & amp; Ancient Golf Club. He has not played any tournaments since 2004. won European Tour PGA Tour Elders Senior PGA Tour Teams
