Ursus of Solothurn

Ursus of Solothurn was a 3rd century Roman Christian, honored as a saint. He is the patron saint of the main Roman Catholic church in the Swiss city of Solothurn, where his material remains are preserved. He was associated with the Theban Legion and Victor of Solothurn early in the Roman martyr book, for example.

The life of Ursus was written in the 5th century by Eucherius van Lyon. Eucherius tells us that Ursus was tortured and hijacked around 286 at the time of Emperor Maximian and Governor Hyrtacus because he refused to worship the idols. Worship

The first church dedicated to Ursus in Solothurn was probably built after the material remains of Victor were transferred to Geneva in the late 5th century. His relics are shown in churches throughout Switzerland, and his chest was found in 1519.
