Alice Coachman

Alice Marie Coachman (November 9, 1923 - July 14, 2014) was an American high jump athlete, winner of the gold medal at the London Olympic Games in 1948, which became the first Black woman who won a gold medal in an Olympics.

King George VI of England was the one who awarded him the medal after his victory in London. Upon his return to the United States, he was received by President Harry Truman. However, upon his arrival in the city of Albany, from where it was natural, a parade was organized in which, according to the racial segregation laws still in effect at that time, black citizens could not mix with whites and in which the mayor of the city did not reach out to Alice.
