BBned

BBned was a Dutch telecommunications company active between 2000 and 2012 on the Dutch market. Originally, it was a subsidiary of Telecom Italia. In 2010, BBned was taken over by Tele2.

BBned offered broadband services to other ISPs on a wholesale basis, but also sold directly to consumers under the brand names Alice, Qfast (Private Market Only) and BBeyond (Business Market). The brand Alice was also run in Germany, Italy and France. In the Netherlands, this brand was replaced by Tele2 at the end of 2012.

BBned offered ADSL and SDSL in the first years of its existence. After KPN, BBned in the Netherlands had the largest number of district centers on its network. The business branch BBeyond also provided VPN services. Since 2005, product offerings continued to expand with telephony, radio and television. This was made possible by a steady gauge of the copper network.

BBned was involved in large-scale glass fiber projects in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. In Amsterdam, BBned was the administrator of the so-called active layer. It caused the exposure of the glass fibers and could subsequently exploit the network commercially. But other ISPs and other providers can also purchase capacity on that network and offer their own services. This model has been chosen because it is deemed to be competitive. In Rotterdam, BBned, among others, was active in the Nesselande district.

In the summer of 2007, BBned transferred the provider InterNLnet. This ISP was also engaged in fiber-optic projects, which strengthened market position and expertise in fiber-optic projects.
