Ren Rong, born Ren Wuyun, Chinese: 任武云 (Cangxi, Guangyuan, September 1917 - Wuhan, June 16, 2017) was a Chinese General Major and Politician. Lifecycle
Renamed the Communist Party of China in 1934 and held a number of important military posts in Mao's People's Liberation Army during the Chinese Civil War and the Second Chinese-Japanese War (1937-1945). At the end of the Korean War (1950-53), he was one of China's representatives in the Commission who signed the ceasefire. In 1955 he was appointed General General.
From the beginning of 1960, Ren held a number of important military posts in Tibet and in 1964 he became deputy commissioner of the region. During the Cultural Revolution he became involved in a power struggle. He took the lead in the Nyamdrel faction (Wylie: mnyam sbrel), thereby building a strong dominant position in the region.
In 1970 he managed to withdraw power and took over the leadership of Zeng Yongya as chairman of the Revolutionary Committee in the Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR). In August 1971 he became a party secretary of the TAR, with which he took charge of the entire leadership of the region. He stayed in this function until March 1980.
After the death of Mao Zedong and the arrest of the Gang of Four in 1976, he managed to maintain his position in Tibet. Only in 1980 he was replaced by the more reformist Yin Fatang.
He became 99 years old.
