Alpine Way

L'Alpine Way

The Alpine Way is a 126 km long road located southeast of New South Wales, Australia. Forming a V, it begins east near Jindabyne on the eastern slope of the Snowy Mountains. She heads south-west passes Thredbo and crosses the Cordillera at Dead Horse Gap (the dead horse pass). It descends on the western slope to near the upper Murray River, on the Victoria border, where it changes direction, heading north, and crosses the Geehi River south of Khancoban, then a few kilometers further to the north is heading west to join Victoria and become the Murray Valley Highway.

The road was built in the 1950s as part of the access to the Snowy Mountains Scheme area and the asphalting of the road was completed in the 1990s. It is winding and very scenic.
