The Campanhã Valley is located in the westernmost part of the city of Porto, bounded on the south by the Douro River. The average altitudes oscillate between 60 and 80 meters and its formation is the result of the action of various erosive agents, especially due to the most important rivers: the Tinto and Torto rivers which flow in the valley until the stream of Campanhã to reach the Douro River. This geographical zone is marked by an intense rainfall and subject to periodic rains due to its proximity to the sea. These natural factors allowed the formation of a landscape favorable to an agricultural activity. Currently, the valley is the green lung of the city with many woodlands dominated by species associated with rainy areas such as pines (Pinus pinaster) or oaks (Quercus robur). History edit code

Rich in water resources with an extremely fertile soil and a privileged geographical position, the Campanhã Valley has always offered favorable conditions for population fixing. Human presence attested by the documentation dating from prehistory. In addition, some traces of toponymy demonstrate that the campanhã area was already inhabited during the period of the great megalithic monuments (III and II centuries BC). But some remains found near the stream of Campanhã are attributed to the Paleolithic, indicate that the occupation in the valley could be earlier. Personalitiesedit the code
