Fondaco of the Turks.

The Fondaco dei Turchi (in Italian) is a palace of the city of Venice, located in the sestiere of Santa Croce. The palace was built in the first half of the 13th century. It belonged to the Marquis Nicolas del Este, who bought it in 1381. At that time the palace housed illustrious visitors such as the Emperor of Byzantium. From the XVII century it was the seat of the Turkish merchants in the city, being that the reason of its present name.

Today, this building houses the Museo di Storia Naturale di Venezia (Museum of Natural History of Venice) with its historical collections of flora, fauna, fossils and an aquarium.
