In 1777 he enlisted in the Navy, being a marine guard. In 1778 already was sailing in the ship San Isidro, making several cruises and participating in the confrontations against England. Later, it embarked in the San Francisco of Assisi. He was enrolled in the San Luis, when he took part in the siege of Gibraltar. In 1782 participated in the battle of the Strait. In 1784 participated in the battle of Algiers and in 1793 in the taking of the port of Toulon. In 1797 he fought at Cape St. Vincent against England, on the vessel Trinidad, and in 1808 participated in the victory over Admiral Rosilly. In 1813 he was appointed naval minister and interim secretary of the State Office until the return of Fernando VII. In 1814 he was appointed treasurer of the Supreme Council of the Admiralty, ceasing in 1815 by political disagreements. In 1820 he was appointed chief of squad and captain general of Castilla La Nueva. In 1822 was designated, again, minister of Navy in the government of Eusebio Bardají and member of the Council of State. In 1823 he was appointed general commander of the maritime department of Cartagena, ceasing two months later, to occupy in Cádiz the Secretary of State and the Office of the Navy. When the blockade ended and the liberal regime fell, in 1823, it fled to Gibraltar; when returning to Spain, was processed: "purification trial" and descended to brigadier.
