Hot beer

Hot beer (Gronings: Haitbier) is a typical Groningen regional drink. It is used in the heating of cooled skating riders and postbodes.

K. Ter Laan writes about the dish that it has to be made with kluin beer. That is no longer brewed. With the current beer it would be less flavorful.

In Belgium there is a tradition of fruit beers. The crisp beer (cherry beer) is then warmed and herbs added to cloves and cinnamon. This is also called "gluhkriek". Although not known in the Netherlands, it is sold on German and Belgian Christmas and winter markets.
