Lauhire (Laouhire) is a small hinge country between Basque Country and Bearn. It is located north of the confluence of Saison and Gave d'Oloron. It includes the communes of Abitain, Arbouet-Sussaute, Autevielle-Saint-Martin-Bideren, Labastide-Villefranche, Bergouey, Ilharre and Osserain.

Its name, from Basque to 'four kingdoms', was explained by its location between Soule, Lower Navarre, Béarn and Gascony (at the time of the influence of Dax to these places, before the annexation of Orthez to Béarn in the eleventh century.

But it can just as easily refer to four agricultural domains without any other claim.

The country is mentioned in 1256 (Lauƒire) and in the XV century (Lauphire) and again under the name Lauƒiray in 1538.

Lauhire is the name of a house located in the municipality of Arancou.

Lauhire is crossed by the Lauhirasse or Xuhukoa, a tributary of the Bidouze. change the code
