The US Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is the body dealing with meteorology and oceanography. It is a federal government agency.
The organization is comparable to the Dutch Royal Dutch Meteorological Institute (KNMI) and the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium (KMI). However, the NOAA has more resources and, for example, has its own network of weather satellites.
The NOAA was founded on October 3, 1970 after US President Richard Nixon had proposed creating a new organization for better protection of property from natural violence for a better understanding of the environment and for exploration and development of natural resources at sea. Externe link
