Principality Beljov

The Beljov Principality Beljov (Russian: Белёвское княжество; Beljovskoje knjazjestvo) was a Russian feudal prince on the top of the Oka and one of the Upper-Okändities.

It originated around the turn of the century from the 14th to the 15th century as one of the three successive states of the Principality of Novosil (the other two were Odoev and Vorotynsk). In 1407 it came under the rule of Lithuania. During the Second Russian-Lithuanian War, which was fought between 1487 and 1494 for the Upper Okay Tendencies between the Great Presidency and Moscow, Beljov passed to the latter in 1490. Moscow won the war and in 1494 the Lithuanian ruler Casimir I was forced to surrender his claims to all the upper extremes, which became part of Moscow. In 1558 the last frost of Beljov was banned from Vologda, which is seen as the formal end of the ruling.
