Ramos de Azevedo Square

Ramos de Azevedo Square

The Ramos de Azevedo square (in Portuguese Praça Ramos de Azevedo) is a public space located in the central area of the city of São Paulo, next to the Vale do Anhangabaú. Next to the square are the Municipal Theater of São Paulo, the Alexander Mackenzie Building (Shopping Light) and the Viaduto do Chá. Together with these places, the square forms a well-known postcard of the city.

The Municipal Theater project was developed by the Italian architects Domiziano Rossi and Cláudio Rossi, who worked in the studio of Francisco de Paula Ramos de Azevedo. In the basement of the theater was included a set of underground passages with exit to the square currently called Ramos de Azevedo. These passages were originally constructed with the intention of ventilating the theater.
