Álvaro Fernández Burriel (August 16, 1879 - Barcelona, ​​August 12, 1936) was a Spanish soldier. Biography

He entered the Cavalry Academy on July 1, 1896.

He was a Spanish soldier who made a career in the cavalry corps, participating in the war in Morocco where he met other prominent military men of the time, such as Mola, Franco, Sanjurjo, among others. He was promoted to brigadier general in August 1932. Between 1933 and 1936 he was commander of the Naval Base of Mahón, in Menorca.

In July 1936 he was in command of the 2nd Cavalry Brigade, based in Barcelona.

Fernández Buriel took an active part in the uprising that led to the Spanish Civil War leading the troops in Barcelona until the arrival of Manuel Goded from Majorca, under whose orders he had to put himself.With the failure of the uprising in Barcelona, Both Goded and Álvaro Fernández Burriel were arrested and taken to the Uruguayan prison ship. After a council of war, celebrated on board the Uruguay, they were condemned to death and shot on the morning of August 12, 1936 in the castle of Montjuich.
