Council of Rome (1050)

In April 1050 a council was called in Rome that was very numerous.

Pope Leo IX, who had been denounced the heresy of Berenguer, made his first Letter to Lanfranc, famous Monk of the Abbey of Bec in Normandy, read about the Eucharist before the whole Council. It was seen that Berenguer received John Scot, condemned Pascasio and followed opinions contrary to the Faith on the Eucharist.

A sentence was pronounced for which he was deprived of the Communion of the Church. Later Lanfranc, who was suspected but unjustly, who approved Berenguer's mistakes, explained his opinions with such clarity and force that they were approved by the Pope and by the whole Council.
