Hurricane Cosme

Hurricane Cosme was formed in the month of June 1989 in the Pacific Ocean, having a trajectory whose center passed very close to the Valley of Mexico with a tropical storm intensity, reaching moderate to strong rains (of 20 to 70 mm in 24 hours). The intense rains caused severe floods in the southeast of Mexico City, such as the La Noria colony of the Xochimilco delegation, where fifty homes were affected by the water that rose a meter and a half high. In several areas of Mexico City there were partial power cuts, tree falls, traffic jams and some fires caused by short circuits. There was also an overflow of the Churubusco River and the San Buenaventura River, which led to the isolation of several areas.
